ReplyDeleteIt’s refreshing to hear that there are organization established to offer services to children who experience developmental delays a as result of abuse, neglect, or poverty. There are countless organizations worldwide established to provide therapeutic and intervention services to children who were victims of abuse, with little focus on children who were subject to neglect or poverty. As a Family Service Specialist I often come into contact with abused and neglected children during the initial stages of investigation on a report of alleged child abuse or neglect. It’s typical for children of extreme abuse or neglect to be referred to therapeutic and intervention services. Unfortunately children who were victims of mild abuse, neglect, and/or poverty are not considered to be in need of therapeutic or intervention services, leaving these children to process their emotions internally. The mission of Child Haven is one that should be reflective in all therapeutic and intervention services worldwide.

ReplyDeleteWhat a nice way to get everyone together, the orginization seems to really care about advocating for children and their families.It is so important for families to have someone to fall on , it is not easy to deal with children with delays and especially under these circumstances.I had heard of Safe Haven, but not of Child Haven.Thanks for sharing I will look into this orginization for some of my families.

ReplyDeleteSounds like a great opportunity to become a volunteer! A few years ago I had the pleasure of working with an organization called Miracle Meadows they provide therapeutic horseback riding. Children would come in stressed and upset and after 20 minutes on the horse they would be relaxed and smiling. A little time and compassion is all that is needed when working with children in theropic situations.
