My Connections to Play

Two Quotes describing Play:

Kahil Gibran...
And forget not that the earth delights to feel your bare feet and the winds long to play with you hair.

Gelett Burgess...
Their is work that is work and there is play that is play; there is play that is work and work that is play. And in only one of these lies happiness.

Toys for my younger self:

When I was not playing with my sister or either at school this was two of my favorite toys in my younger years. Playing was a time when I imagined and did alot of role playing. When playing with my dollhouse and also barbie pool this gave me time for long hours of imagination journeys without even leaving my room!!

Party at the Barbie Dream Pool

The main thing I remembered when I was young was the time my parents spent with me and my sister in different forms of play. Some activities would be outside or inside. They were all fun and exciting. My parents always set time for us to have free time during our busy schedules. This was never left out. Some of our play consisted of travel and some could be as simple as going to the pool for a swim. This was time that we spent together and I always felt free.
I feel that play is alot different from when I was little because I don't see kids outside playing as much. We would go out on Saturday's when we were free and play all day lond. We did not have problems with finding things to do. Now I see that most kids like to entertain themselves through t.v. and video games. This is alot different and this changes has caused major health issues in the adolescent community.
I think the role of play in my life have direct influence on my discussion to work in the early childhood field. When I used to play with my dolls and doll house I would always imagine me having a house and family with lots of children. My simple thought turned into me desiring to not only have a big family but also I understood that I had a passion for kids. This time of play triggered my compassion for what I do now!
